U16s Show Heart in Hard-Fought Final Against Cramlington

Our U16s gave everything they had in the final against Cramlington, showing great determination, resilience and team spirit from the first whistle to the last.

Both teams started strongly, and an early high tackle allowed Cramlington to take the lead with the opening try. The weather was incredibly warm, but the lads didn't let that stop them. They settled into the game well and soon hit back with a well-worked try of their own.

The match stayed evenly contested, but a knock-on from the restart gave Cramlington another opportunity, and they made the most of it to score again. From the following kick-off, Cramlington let the ball bounce into touch, giving us a great attacking platform. We came close to scoring after a brilliant run towards the try line, but unfortunately we were forced into touch just short. Cramlington capitalised on the turnover and added another try.

Despite this setback, the boys defended brilliantly and refused to give up. Their hard work was rewarded with another try before half-time, leaving the score at 16-12 and everything still to play for.

The second half proved difficult. The heat started to take its toll, and after a few decisions didn't go our way, the lads became frustrated. Cramlington took advantage and added a couple more tries. Our boys kept battling until the final whistle and crossed the line four times in total, but Cramlington finished with six tries to take the game 38-22.

Although we didn't get the result we wanted, there were so many positives to take from the game. The scoreline was a big improvement on our previous meeting with Cramlington and showed just how much this team has developed. Every player worked their socks off and never stopped trying, which is all any coach can ask for.

A huge thank you to Mackenzie, Samuel, Euan and Jackson for stepping up and joining with Yarm so they could play Rugby League. I am incredibly proud of every single one of you for your commitment throughout the season, travelling to every fixture and always giving your best.

Finally, thank you to all of the parents for your continued support, encouragement and for getting the players to every game. It is hugely appreciated, and we couldn't do it without you.
